Drivers ‘must’ have this item in their cars from this week

Motorists war:n:ed they could face fines if caught breaking the rules

Following a wa:r:m and dry summer, the weather has taken a turn over the last couple of weeks.

And when we head towards winter, drivers are urged not to leave themselves at risk of being caught out by the conditions.

Brits may have already noticed their windscreens fogging up on the cooler windows.

It increases the risk of people setting off on journeys without being able to see properly, putting others and risk – and leaving themselves at risk of fines.

A microfibre cloth can be a lifesaver on colder mornings, allowing drivers to quickly and easily clear the windscreen.

It’s always a good idea to keep microfibre cloths in the car.

A spokesperson from BigWantsYourCar.com said: “A fogged-up windscreen might not seem serious, but legally, any obstruction to your view of the road is enough to land you with a fine.

“It’s not just a winter problem. Autumn nights are cold and damp, and condensation can build up within minutes of setting off.”

The Highway Code makes it clear that windscreens and front windows must be kept clean and free from obstructions at all times.

And motorists could find themselves in trouble in the event of an incident.

Driving without a clear view of the road ahead could result in a £1,000 fine and three penalty points.

The spokesperson said: “A microfibre cloth costs a few pounds but could save you thousands in the long run.

“It’s one of the cheapest and most effective safety tools you can carry.”
