While on a road trip across the country, an elderly couple decided to stop at a roadside diner for lunch. They enjoyed their meal, chatted with the friendly staff, and left feeling satisfied. About forty minutes into their drive, the wife realized she had left her glasses on the table at the diner.
She informed her husband, who immediately transformed into the quintessential grouchy old man. “You forgot your glasses again?” he grumbled. “How many times do I have to remind you?” The car ride back to the diner was filled with complaints, scolding, and endless fussing. Every turn seemed to aggravate him more, and the wife sat quietly, half amused, half exasperated.
Finally, they arrived back at the diner. The elderly woman quickly got out, hurrying inside to retrieve her glasses. As she was about to enter, the old man rolled down his window and called out, “While you’re in there, you might as well grab my hat and the credit card!” She shook her head, smiling at his humor, and went inside to collect the forgotten items. Later that day, while continuing their road trip, the wife, who was driving, got pulled over by a highway patrol officer.
The officer walked up to the car and said, “Ma’am, did you know you were speeding?” Hard of hearing, she turned to her husband and asked, “What did he say?” He yelled, “He says you were speeding!” The officer then asked, “May I see your license?” Again, she asked her husband, and he shouted, “He wants to see your license!” She handed it over. The officer glanced at it, smirked, and said, “Ah, Arkansas. I once went on a blind date with the ugliest woman I’ve ever seen.” The wife turned to her husband once more, asking, “What did he say?” Without missing a beat, he yelled, “He says he knows you!” The couple burst into laughter, realizing that, even on long road trips, humor and a little patience make every moment memorable.
