What’s going on?” I asked, trying to keep my tone light.”It’s about John. He’s been coming over every day for the past six months,” she began. “Yes, I know. He’s been helping Clarke out a lot,” I replied.
She let out a bitter laugh. “Helping? Jeanne, he’s been coming over just to eat our food. Do you have any idea how much it’s costing us?” I was stunned. “What do you mean, eating your food? He told me he was helping Clarke with repairs and stuff.””Sure, he does help here and there, but mostly, he just shows up for dinner. And it’s been adding up.
