The Nun Said It Was “Just Gas” — But Father Dan Wasn’t Ready for the Ending

When Father Dan visited the convent, he prided himself on knowing every sister and their routines. The peaceful order of the place rarely changed, which is why something unusual caught his attention during one of his visits.

“Sister Ann,” he asked gently, glancing at her midsection, “aren’t you putting on a little weight?”

The young nun smiled politely and lowered her eyes. “Why, no Father,” she said softly. “It’s just a little gas.”

Father Dan nodded, slightly confused, but didn’t press further.

A few months later, he returned to the convent and saw Sister Ann again. This time, her habit stretched noticeably across her belly. Concerned, he asked the same question.

“Oh, just a bit of gas,” she replied again, her cheeks turning pink.

Father Dan left the conversation puzzled, but he chose to trust her explanation.

On his next visit, while walking quietly down the corridor, he noticed something that stopped him in his tracks. One of the older nuns was rushing past him, holding a baby wrapped in a blanket.

Shocked, Father Dan quickly asked, “Sister! Where did that baby come from?”

Without missing a step, the nun replied calmly:

“Father, it’s just the gas… and now it’s finally passed.”

Father Dan stood frozen in the hallway, speechless, as the realization slowly sank in — and the quiet convent was never quite the same again.

Sometimes, the most unexpected explanations turn out to be the most unforgettable.
